How Do Traditional Braces Work?
Orthodontic treatments generally revolve around applying slight but consistent pressure to the teeth to slowly shift them into a better position. With traditional braces, a series of brackets are bonded to the teeth and are attached by a special wire. With periodic adjustments and tightening, eventually your teeth will line up to create a better smile.
What Can Braces Fix?
Traditional braces can correct a wide variety of orthodontic problems, including particularly severe or complex ones. Obviously, crooked and crowded teeth are a common issue, but braces can also be used to close small gaps and correct rotated teeth. They can also treat all kinds of bite alignment problems, including overbite, underbite and crossbite.
How Long Do Braces Take?
No two patients are alike, so the amount of time braces need to be worn will vary from person to person. It usually depends on the extent of the adjustments needed and how receptive the patient’s mouth is to the changes. On average, braces are usually worn for about 18 months, although in some cases the treatment can last for 3 years. Of course, in the long run, the improvements to your oral health and your appearance will be well worth it!
Does It Hurt to Have Braces Put On or Adjusted?
There is usually some discomfort associated with orthodontic treatment, but in the normal course of the treatment it’ll only be temporary. You’ll experience some soreness after braces are first put in your mouth, and this sensation will return when you have them adjusted periodically, but this is completely normal; it’s just a side effect of the braces doing what they’re meant to do. The soreness will go away on its own in a few days’ time.
Cost of Traditional Braces
There is no “one-size-fits-all” price for braces. Some patients will need more adjustments than others, and the amount of treatment time required will affect the final cost. Occasional repairs and replacement parts also need to be taken into account. We’ll work with you to create an accurate estimate of the price range at the beginning of the process.
